WP6: Adaptive management

Work Package 6 (WP6) strengthens the Baltic Sea MPA network by establishing a shared, adaptive management framework.

Through this work, the project promotes a common understanding of MPAs, sets protection targets, assesses existing measures, updates management guidelines, and develops methods to evaluate effectiveness.

It also enhances regional monitoring frameworks and advances a Baltic-wide Restoration Action Plan, exploring innovative tools to optimize the network.

Because of its broad scope, the work is structured into four main areas:

  • Governance – led by Jannica Haldin (HELCOM Secretariat)
  • Management – led by Darius Daunys (Klaipeda University)
  • Monitoring – led by Georg Martin (University of Tartu)
  • Restoration – led by Lasse Kurvinen (Metsähallitus)
